Find File
The File Finder will search through all of the directories that you have access to
beginning at your root directory. The search will produce a list of all files and
directories that match your input. The list will pop up in a new window, so that
you may search through the directories. If you click on the icon or the filename
the file will appear in a new browser window, just like it does if you click on the
filename in the directory listing. There is also a button to the right of the file
name and path that says GO. If you click on this button the main window will list
the directory that file is located in.
If you just enter a word, the search will only return exact matches. You can also
use the asterisk, *, to search for files containing a phrase or group of letters.
For example if you typed *.html as input every file with the .html extension would
be returned. If you put the asterisk after the word you are searching for, only files
that begin with the word will be returned. You can also put an asterisk before and
after a word in order to search for a file that's name contains a specific word
somewhere in the name.
For example if you typed *document* your search would return files and directories
such as document.html, new-document, old-document.html, or document.
